The First Bar

I'm Michael Ip — a Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner from Hong Kong, now based in Bristol.

I've spent years studying the Five Elements. The way they move through us. The way balance feels when it returns.

But this brand didn't begin with philosophy. It began with one person.

My partner was struggling with her cycle. I knew which botanicals could help — I'd prescribed them many times before. But she couldn't bear the bitter taste.

She could, however, finish an entire bar of good chocolate without hesitation.

So I made her one. Infused with the exact herbs she needed. Something she could look forward to, not endure.

That bar became her ritual. A small ceremony she never dreaded.

And I realised something I couldn't ignore:

Wellness should feel like a gift you give yourself.

Vital Duo was born from that moment.

The Philosophy

Michael Ip is a registered Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner, trained in Hong Kong and now practising in the UK.

His approach is rooted in the classical texts — and in the belief that healing should never feel like punishment.

He created Vital Duo to bridge two worlds: the depth of Eastern botanical wisdom and the craft of fine British chocolate making.

Every formulation is his. Every bar, an extension of his practice.
